CES 2026: HyperX introduces Clutch Tachi leverless joystick with tactile and magnetic switches

With the increased durability and accuracy, it was only a matter of time before TMR sensors appeared in armless controllers. Following the announcement of the Corsair Novablade Pro with Hall Effect, HyperX unveiled its own answer — the new Clutch Tachi. This stickless firepad combines TMR technology with magnetic switches and a customizable trigger point.

HyperX Clutch Tachi — a USB 2.0 wired controller compatible with PCs, Xbox consoles and Android devices. Unfortunately, the announced version does not support PlayStation 5. Pricing and launch date information will be announced at a later date.

The leverless layout is initially focused on top speed, where stick movements are replaced by quick button presses. Unveiled at CES 2026, the controller features 12 buttons with a total stroke of 2.5mm. Street Fighter and Tekken players can reduce the trigger point by adjusting it in 0.25mm increments.

TMR sensors can capture more subtle movements, potentially giving the arcade controller an edge over Hall-effect solutions. Despite the higher cost, more manufacturers are expected to utilize this more wearable technology in future firepads.

In contrast to ultrathin leverless controllers like the Razer Kitsune, the Clutch Tachi is more massive. Still, at 300 × 203 × 23.7mm and 846g, it’s still portable enough. HyperX focuses on ergonomics, offering adjustable feet and a wide wrist rest.

The controller also focuses on personalization. RGB lighting surrounds the «pudding» keycaps, and effects control is available through the Ngenuity app. A transparent top panel allows you to place your own images underneath, and the buttons can be replaced with 3D-printed variants if you wish.

To meet the demands of the competition scene, the Clutch Tachi comes with support for four SOCD modes, responsible for handling simultaneous opposite directions.
