CES 2026: Motorola showed its Apple AirTag counterpart

Motorola unveiled the Moto Tag 2 — an updated version of the Moto Tag 1 tracker announced in 2024. The new product is positioned as a compact alternative to Apple’s AirTag for Android users and is fully integrated into the Google Find Hub network. The Moto Tag 2 is compatible with smartphones running Android 9 and newer and is certified to meet Google’s Find Hub accessory requirements.

The tracker supports Bluetooth 6.0 with Channel Sounding technology, as well as Ultra-Wideband (UWB) for more accurate positioning on compatible UWB-enabled Android devices. According to Motorola, UWB-enabled tracking works if the tag is within 100 meters of another eligible Android device connected to the Find Hub network. Bluetooth and geolocation services must be enabled on your smartphone for Find Hub and location sharing to work properly.

Power is provided by a replaceable CR2032 battery that users can replace themselves. The claimed battery life exceeds 500 days with normal use. Moto Tag 2 also features a built-in speaker with a volume of up to 77dB at a distance of 10cm, allowing you to play audio alerts when searching for objects in the vicinity.

The dimensions of the device are 31.9 × 31.9 × 8 mm. The body is made of plastic and metal. The tracker is IP68 rated, which means it’s fully dustproof and can be immersed in fresh water up to 1.5 meters deep for up to 30 minutes in a lab environment. The operating temperature range is stated to be from 0 to 45°C.

In terms of privacy, Moto Tag 2 utilizes end-to-end data encryption and supports unwanted tracking notifications, alerting the user if an unknown tracker moves with them. Additional features are available through the Moto Tag app, including remote smartphone camera release, phone search and location sharing. Moto Tag 2 is compatible with third-party accessories and will be available in Pantone Arabesque and Pantone Laurel Oak colors.
