CES 2026: Lenovo to show a laptop concept with a retractable screen
Lenovo has confirmed that it will show off its ThinkPad Rollable XD concept device at CES 2026. The new product will be shown as a proof-of-concept alongside a refreshed product portfolio and reflects Lenovo’s vision of how adaptive «hardware» can support more flexible and contextual work scenarios in the future.
Based on the materials shown, the ThinkPad Rollable XD concept utilizes a retractable display that unfolds vertically. This allows you to change the size of the screen depending on the task at hand. This approach should be especially useful in scenarios where additional vertical space is needed, such as document work, programming or multitasking, without increasing the laptop’s size when folded.

Lenovo emphasizes that the device is part of the company’s broader research into smart and context-aware form factors and is not intended for commercial release. No specifications, possible price, or release date have been revealed at this time.
The ThinkPad Rollable XD concept logically continues Lenovo’s experimentation with non-standard display formats, including the previously revealed foldable and dual-screen ThinkPad prototypes. As with those, the main goal of the Rollable XD — to demonstrate technical feasibility and possible scenarios for user interaction with the device. That said, Lenovo has yet to say whether the retractable screen mechanism is designed for durability testing beyond the demo samples.
