CES 2026: Samsung demonstrates Family Hub refrigerator with Gemini AI
Samsung has unveiled a new generation of Family Hub refrigerators that aims to solve one of the most stressful tasks in the kitchen — choosing the daily menu. According to the company, the main problem is not the cooking process itself, but deciding what to cook. To do this, Samsung has teamed up with Google to incorporate Gemini artificial intelligence into the fridge.
Samsung announced a few days ago that new Family Hub Refrigerator models will get Google Gemini support. The top of the fridge has a downward-facing camera that tracks all food placed inside and taken outside. Earlier refrigerators in this series also had a camera, but it could only recognize 37 types of fresh produce and about 50 types of packaged goods. Thanks to Gemini’s more advanced object recognition algorithms, the new model can identify significantly more products.

The refrigerator automatically generates a detailed list of what foods are inside and exactly where they are placed. This list is updated every time the user takes out or puts in food. The system can also alert you when items are approaching their expiration date. The camera can also recognize text on packages, so you can track the contents of containers and lunchboxes.
Synchronizing the fridge’s inventory with Samsung’s Food service allows it to automatically pick recipes from available ingredients. In What’s For Today, users can select a dish, and then step-by-step cooking instructions are displayed on the large 32-inch touchscreen. If there’s a Samsung oven with a screen in the house, the recipe is automatically sent to that too, so the devices work in sync during cooking.

The refrigerator also offers instructional videos through the Video to Recipe feature. Artificial intelligence can convert the video into a clear step-by-step instruction, eliminating the need to constantly pause the video, which is especially inconvenient when cooking. When the dish is ready to go into the oven, just press the start button — the oven is already set up.
Another feature, FoodNote, analyzes the family’s eating habits. The fridge generates weekly reports on which foods are most often added and used. This helps you plan your grocery shopping better, as well as get recipe recommendations and grocery lists that are worth stocking up on.
The fridge’s outer screen displays more widgets, grouped under Now Brief. The updated Bixby voice assistant recognizes the voices of different family members and shows personalized information like a calendar, health data from Samsung Health, photos, videos, Spotify playlists, news, weather forecasts, and recipe recommendations.

Complementing all of this is a motorized door. You can use a voice command to ask Bixby to open or close the fridge, which is especially handy when your hands are full of food or dishes.
Samsung has yet to reveal the exact release date and price of the new Family Hub Refrigerator. The device is expected to be expensive and will be available in the coming months in select markets in Europe, South Korea and the US. More information will be released shortly.
