Apple unveiled macOS 26 Tahoe at WWDC 2025

At WWDC 2025, Apple announced a new version of its desktop operating system, macOS 26 Tahoe. The main new feature is a completely redesigned interface.

According to Craig Federighi, the system was built with all types of users in mind and builds on the strengths of previous versions of macOS. The new design includes updated widgets, app icons, and the Dock, all in the Liquid Glass style.

New interface and workspace personalization

One notable change is an update to the menu bar – it’s now completely transparent, which visually maximizes display space. Users will be able to customize folders by adding color labels and emoji, as well as use new controls from macOS and iOS apps.
Apple emphasizes that Macs can now be even easier to customize to the user’s individual style.

Integration of iOS features and Continuity improvements

The system gained a number of features already familiar from iOS. Live Translation and Image Playground have been added to macOS 26. Continuity has also been enhanced, with Live Activities now available on the Mac, allowing you to interact with activities in real time.

Metal 4 and the new Games app for Mac
macOS 26 Tahoe has gained support for Metal 4, a new version of Apple’s graphics engine adapted for next-generation display technology. This gives you access to games with a higher level of visual quality and improved performance.

A new Games app is also coming to the Mac. It’s designed for centralized game management: you can find, launch, and update games through it, similar to the approach on iOS. Apple emphasizes that the Mac is becoming a full-fledged gaming platform.
Biggest Spotlight update with automation support
The biggest change to Spotlight is that search is now context-sensitive and intelligently adaptive. It suggests the commands and documents you use most often and lets you perform actions without opening apps. You can send emails, create events, control audio playback, and launch podcasts right from the search bar.

Spotlight now supports advanced shortcuts. Users can create scripted actions – like comparing a lecture recording to a lecture notes, or scheduling a function to run when an external monitor is connected. Clipboard history and in-app search for controls are present. The new App Intents API allows developers to embed their app’s features into Spotlight, making it even faster and easier to control.
