Switching from Android to iPhone is about to get a lot easier
Google and Apple are testing an updated data migration mechanism between Android and iOS that should eliminate most of the problems associated with moving between ecosystems. Right now, migrating within the same platform is easy, but moving data from Android to iPhone (and vice versa) remains confusing and unreliable.
What’s changing in Android and iOS
The fresh build of Android 2512 (Canary) for Pixel devices includes hidden improvements to the initial setup process that make it easier to import data from an iPhone. Apple plans to add similar changes in a future beta version of iOS 26.3. These features have not yet been included in the release candidate of iOS 26.2.
The updated porting mechanism will only be available during initial device setup. For now, both companies are conducting closed testing, and no timeline has been disclosed for when the final version will be released to all users.
So far, the two companies have not disclosed a release date for the final version.
Google and Apple also plan to expand the list of data types available for porting, which should happen before the public launch of the feature.

What exactly will be improved
The companies don’t specify exactly what changes are being implemented, but judging by code analysis, users may no longer need separate Move to iOS and Android Switch apps. Right now, these are the ones used to move photos, videos, WhatsApp history, call logs, calendars, messages, and email accounts. They are often unstable, time-consuming, and often need to be restarted.
The closer coordination between Google and Apple may be due to regulatory pressures: both companies have been criticized for creating platform dependency, and making it easier to move between systems helps reduce those claims.
