PENUP update confirmed the near launch of One UI 8.5 beta version
Samsung’s PENUP app update has gained support for One UI 8.5, a direct sign that the beta testing program is about to start soon. The company hasn’t named a date yet, but the firmware is already mentioned in the official changelog.
The latest version of PENUP now indicates that “One UI 8.5 has been applied.” This means that the app has been optimized for the new version of the shell. The distribution of the update began on December 3. Earlier, there was a rumor online that the beta program might start on December 8, but Samsung hasn’t published any confirmation.

The PENUP update can only be seen on the leaked One UI 8.5 build. It’s not yet available on previous versions of the shell. Previously, the company has also updated branded apps ahead of major releases, but this is the first time the upcoming One UI version number is listed in the changelog itself.
The One UI 8.5 beta program is expected in two phases. First it will be available for the Galaxy S25 series in the US, UK, Korea and Germany. The program will then open in India and Poland. After the launch, users will be able to apply in the Samsung Members app. PENUP gained support for One UI 8.0 three months ago, and the new update follows that timeline to prepare apps for the transition to the next version of the interface.
