Sony State of Play 2025 announcements: Days Gone remaster, Borderlands 4 release and more

Sony State of Play 2025 announcements: Days Gone remaster, Borderlands 4 release and more

After a strange but ultimately successful 2024, Sony revealed its plans for 2025 at State of Play — or at least in part. Rather than focusing on big first-person games like Ghost of Yotei and Marvel’s Wolverine, the 45-minute demo focused almost exclusively on upcoming third-person games. The release dates for Borderlands 4 and Metal Gear Solid Delta became known, as well as upcoming titles for the second half of 2025. And a surprise in the form of Warriors: Abyss, Koei Tecmo’s new “roguelike” game, is available today.

Surprise.

There was a bit of first-person gaming news, too. At the end, Sony unveiled a teaser of Saros, a new game from Returnal Studios. A remaster of Days Gone was also announced – the Sony exclusive  about zombies will be similar to The Last of Us Part 2. Unfortunately, there’s no information about Bloodborne, though fans were hopeful.

There’s everything Sony announced at February’s State of Play 2025.

Saros — Housemarque’s Returnal sequel

Sony

The biggest first-person news on State of Play comes from Returnal developer Housemarque. Its next game will be Saros, which is scheduled for release in 2026. We only got brief information about it at the presentation, but we do know that it will be based on the Returnal “roguelike” formula. Housemarque says he’ll show gameplay later this year. The game will be exclusive to the PS5.

Borderlands 4

Sony

The first gameplay trailer for Borderlands 4 has been revealed. It’s pretty much what everyone expected from the series, with a focus on the iconic visual style and fast-paced gameplay. The only thing we didn’t learn — is what the jokes sound like, as there were no hints of a plot. Also became known the release date – September 23. The developers will tell more about the game at the spring presentation of the State of Play.

Additional information about the game will be revealed at the spring presentation of the State of Play.

Metal Gear Solid Delta

Sony

Metal Gear Solid Delta is set to release on August 28. This was revealed in a new trailer that showed off a lot more details of the remake. We also got a small teaser of the new Ape Escape crossover at the end of the trailer, which was also leaked along with the release date ahead of the presentation.

Metal Gear Solid Delta is due out on August 28th.

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds

Sony

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds has gotten a big new trailer showing off the racing game in action. The clip showed players a lot of the interesting characters that will appear in the game – Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles – and the mind-blowing tracks. But the main news is that the closed network testing of the game will take place very soon. Players will be able to try it out on February 21. No release date has been set yet.

Warriors: Abyss

Sony

While surprise releases aren’t usually Sony’s strong suit, today was an exception. Warriors: Abyss — a new game from Koei Tecmo that turns the Dynasty Warriors series into a “roguelike”. It’s a top-down action game in which players have to mug tons of enemies. Surprisingly, it’s available today.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Sony

Although the game won’t be released until 2026, we’ve got a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It focuses on the protagonist and gameplay, showing intense action in motion. It was a bit of a surprise, given that the game was only first shown at this year’s Game Awards, and won’t be launching until next year.

Lies of P: Overture

.

Sony

The highly anticipated DLC Lies of P was also shown off at the presentation. The update, dubbed Overture, is a prequel that takes Soulslike to a snowy world. It is slightly different in tone from the gloomy base game and features more colorful visuals (the winter setting is apt for that after all). The story will tell the beginning of Puppet Frenzy and continue the events of the base game. It is scheduled to launch in the summer.

Days Gone remaster

.

Sony

Sony’s Days Gone exclusive received a surprise remaster on April 25. Days Gone Remastered will visually update the divisive PS4 version and add new features such as permadeath mode (character death without the ability to be revived in any way), a speedrun mode, and a horde survival mode. As is usually the case with remasters, a set of accessibility options will also be added to the game. The game will have VRR and PS5 Pro support. Those who have already purchased Days Gone on PS4 can upgrade to the remaster for $10.

The game will be available on PS4.
