Dyson unveils ultra-slim PencilWash wet vacuum
Dyson has expanded its lineup of compact home cleaning devices with the introduction of the new PencilWash. Building on last year’s PencilVac- which Dyson touted as “the world’s thinnest vacuum”-the PencilWash shifts focus from dry debris to wet cleaning of hard floors.
Unlike the PencilVac, designed for dry dirt pickup, the PencilWash is tailored for washing tiles, laminate, and sealed wood floors. Similar to its predecessor, the motor, battery, and electronics are housed within a narrow handle. However, instead of a dust bin, it features a water tank integrated into the larger cleaning head. A single roller brush made of dense microfiber material does the scrubbing.

The PencilWash employs a pressurized water delivery system: clean water and low-foam detergent feed onto the roller, which cleans the floor while simultaneously collecting dirty water into a separate compartment. Floors aren’t left completely dry after cleaning, but Dyson says residual moisture evaporates quickly.
Weighing around 4.9 pounds (2.2 kg), the PencilWash is slightly heavier than the PencilVac’s 4 pounds but remains lightweight compared to most traditional floor washers. The handle can tilt nearly flat, making it easier to reach under beds, sofas, and low furniture.

Battery life exceeds 30 minutes on a single charge. For larger homes, Dyson will offer an optional extra battery that attaches to the base of the handle, though it will be sold separately.
The price point is notably different. While the PencilVac with four rotating conical brushes costs $600, the new PencilWash is priced at $349, which includes the charging dock in the package.
