Xiaomi is preparing to launch the 1S portable photo printer
By ForGeeks Xiaomi’s global website has a page Portable Photo Printer 1S -a compact device that prints photos directly from a smartphone. The printer is already available in China, and now it looks like an international release is coming. Key features include ZINK cartridge-free technology and support for AR photos that come to life via a mobile app.
Printing without ink: how ZINK works
Xiaomi Portable Photo Printer 1S uses ZINK (Zero Ink) -a technology in which colors appear when special paper is heated, without the use of traditional ink.
- Photos are sticky – you can stick them to your laptop, phone, wall or album.
- In the kit – 5 sheets of photo paper
- The printing cost, according to Xiaomi’s statement, can be about 1.98 yuan ($0.27) per photo
It’s not yet clear whether the device supports ZINK paper from third-party manufacturers.
Photo with video and audio: how the AR feature works
One of the printer’s biggest differentiators is support for AR photos. Using the Mi Home app you can attach the following to each printed photo:
- up to 15 seconds of video
- or up to 60 seconds of audio clip
After printing a photo, you can tap your smartphone and play the media directly from the picture.The app also offers editing functions:
- filters,
- collages,
- watermarks with avatars or signatures.
Connectivity, format and compatibility
The printer connects via Bluetooth 5.2 and supports simultaneous connection of up to three devices. Wi-Fi is not required.Supported formats:
- JPEG
- PNG
- HEIF
Compact size and price
The size of the device is only 82×124×22 mm. The printer fits easily into a bag and weighs little, making it convenient for traveling or printing on the road.
Prices and a global release date have not yet been announced. In China, the device sells for 399 yuan (~$55).
