Motorola is preparing its first foldable “smartphone-book”
It looks like Motorola is finally getting ready to move beyond the Razr line of clamshells. A new hint indicates that the company plans to unveil its first foldable, book-format smartphone next January.
A new hint indicates that the company is planning to unveil its first foldable book-format smartphone next January.
The hint didn’t appear on social media or at a press briefing. It was discovered in a Motorola corporate gift set, photos of which were shared by Alex Maxham of Android Headlines. The box contained a wooden notepad with the phrase: «Every curve opens up an opportunity». There was also a note mentioning Lenovo Tech World, which will be held on Jan. 6, 2026, saying the company is «preparing to unlock new perspectives».
It’s not hard to connect the facts. Motorola hasn’t officially confirmed anything, but the wording clearly hints at a book folding smartphone, not another Razr update. The timing seems logical, too: the Razr 70 series isn’t expected until mid-2026, so the device shown appears to be in a different category.

In parallel, Motorola is drumming up interest in its next classic format flagship — a smartphone tentatively called the Edge 70 Ultra for now. The name has not yet been confirmed, but the device is expected to get a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor. That seems plausible, given that the previous model in the Ultra series — the Edge 50 Ultra (2024) — came out with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip.
If the company is indeed preparing a foldable, book-type smartphone — unofficially called the «Motorola Fold» — it will be a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and other large foldable models such as the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. It will also be a new step for Motorola’s premium lineup, offering a model for those who want a larger screen for multitasking and entertainment.
The fact that the teaser is tied to Lenovo Tech World suggests that Motorola wants to unveil the new product on a major stage. With the January 6, 2026 date already marked on the calendar, details are likely to emerge very soon.
