YouTube has introduced AI tools into the platform to create Shorts videos from photos

YouTube developers have begun integrating generative artificial intelligence capabilities into its service to create short vertical videos, Shorts. These tools will allow users to transform static images into dynamic videos, as well as provide a wide range of neural network-based video effects.

The new features will become available in the Shorts creation interface soon. One of the key features — converting photos into videos using just one image. Based on that image, the GenAI model creates a short video clip, the duration of which is unspecified, based on user-defined parameters.

In addition, two new AI-powered effects will appear in the video editing tools. The first effect simulates submergence: a neural network creates additional frames, smoothing out the transition between real frames and creating the effect of a submerged object. The second effect allows the user to create a drawing or sketch directly on their smartphone and then turn it into a detailed image.
Content creators will also have access to AI Playground, a tool for generating videos and music based on text descriptions.

YouTube officials emphasize that content created using AI will be tagged accordingly. The rollout of the new features will be phased in over the next few weeks. Users in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand will be the first to access them.
