Apple News+ has featured voiced articles in Canada and the UK

Five years after launching in the US, Apple News+ audio content has expanded geographically. The professionally voiced articles are now available to subscribers in four countries.

Audio content has reached all regions with Apple News+

Apple News+ Audio, available since July 2020 only in the US, has now officially launched in Canada, the UK and Australia. Like U.S. users, subscribers can listen to about 20 new pieces of audio per week – in the Apple News app or, in some cases, via Apple Podcasts.

According to Apple, each week brings fresh releases that are customized listening versions of articles from GQ, Vanity Fair, TIME, Wired, New York Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal and more. The content is narrated by professional speakers.

Why is it taking so long?

It took almost five years to expand the feature to other countries. This can be attributed to license restrictions, the need to tailor content to different markets, and the difficulty of producing original audio content in local languages. Nevertheless, audio stories are now available in all countries where Apple News and News+ officially operate.

Platform development continues

Despite limited availability, Apple has consistently invested in the service’s growth. Apple News+ introduced a Food themed section in 2023, and recently launched an interactive Emoji Game.

A subscription to Apple News+ costs $12.99 per month and includes a 1-month free trial. The service is also included in the Apple One Premier package.
