Mortal Kombat 1: Smoke and Rain are confirmed as playable characters
By ForGeeks Warner Bros Games and Netherrealm have announced that Smoke and Rain will be playable characters in Mortal Kombat 1. A new trailer, which also showed footage from the game’s campaign, shows Scorpion and Sub-Zero fighting to create Lin Quei.

In addition to adding Smoke and Rayne as playable characters, it has also been confirmed that Sector, Cyrax, Frost and Scorpius will be Kameo fighters who serve as assistants in the game.
According to series head Ed Boone, the Kameo fighters are «non-canon» that is, players can use Scorpion as the main fighter and another version of Scorpion — as Kameo.
The game, announced in May and set for release on Sept. 19, «will introduce a reborn Mortal Kombat universe created by fire god Liu Kang, with reimagined versions of iconic characters as they have never been before».
