Todd Howard: The Elder Scrolls 6 is still a long way from release
The Elder Scrolls 6 was officially announced back at E3 2018 with a short teaser that confirmed the start of pre-production at Bethesda Game Studios. Since then, little has been reported about the project, and now studio head Todd Howard has reminded us once again that we shouldn’t expect the game anytime soon.
In an interview with GQ, Howard said that development is still far from complete: «I preach patience. I don’t want fans to worry». He also noted that he doesn’t like to announce a release date long before release: «I like to just announce a game and release it shortly afterward. Ideally —and I’m not saying that’s going to be the case —the project will just show up one day without warning».
When asked if he’d like to release The Elder Scrolls 6 suddenly, as he recently did with Oblivion Remastered, Howard said, «You could say it was a trial version. And it worked fine».
The Bethesda executive also revealed that hundreds of studio employees are now busy with projects in the Fallout universe, including Fallout 76 and other initiatives. According to VGC, one such development is a Fallout 3 remaster in the vein of the recent The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered. In addition, the Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition with all the add-ons was released earlier this week.
An anniversary edition of Fallout 4 with all the add-ons was released earlier this week.
Howard has repeatedly emphasized that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be the studio’s next all-new release, with Fallout 5 to follow.
Answering a question about whether he regrets announcing the game too early, Howard admitted: «I often ask myself that question. I probably would have made it less official».”
Talking about the aims of the project, he added: «It’s hard for me to answer, but I will say one thing — we want the game to be the epitome of the perfect fantasy world simulator. And we have different ways to achieve that, given the time that has passed».
