Figma introduced new AI-editing tools for image editing
Figma has added new AI-powered image editing features to its platform, including object removal and isolation, as well as image enlargement.
The company notes that such tools eliminate the need to export images to separate applications for processing and then import them back. Figma says generative models like Nano Banana are good for image creation, but in most cases, users want precise editing tools without text queries.
Figma has updated the «lasso» tool for selecting objects. It can now be used to delete elements, isolate them, and move them. When you move an object, it retains the visual characteristics of the original image —background and color. You can also select an object to adjust lighting, shadows, color or focus.

The company has also introduced an image expansion feature. It’s useful when creating creatives for different formats — for example, for banners on a website or in mobile apps, when you need to fill in backgrounds or details. It eliminates the need to constantly crop the image and manually change the composition.
All image editing tools are now organized in a separate panel to make them easier to use. Through it, you can select objects, change the background color, and add text and annotations. According to Figma, removing the background —s one of the most popular actions, so it’s now a prominent feature.
Similar tools were previously available from competitors like Adobe and Canva, and now Figma is catching up with the market. The new features are available in Figma Design and Draw, and will be rolled out to other products on the platform next year.
