Sony has signed a deal with Bad Robot to release a cooperative shooter

Sony Interactive Entertainment has signed an agreement to develop and publish a game from Bad Robot — J.J. Abrams’ production company. The parties are not revealing details yet, but it is known that it will be a four-player cooperative shooter for PlayStation 5 and PC. The project is headed by Mike Booth — creator of Left 4 Dead and one of the most experienced developers in the co-op shooter genre.

Bad Robot Games — a fully remote studio founded in 2018 with Tencent. The team has previously been involved in the development of individual projects: acting as an investor and consultant for Weird West, as well as working on the interactive streaming series Silent Hill: Ascension. The new shooter will be the first game that Bad Robot Games is creating entirely in-house.

A few months ago, Booth left a message on the Left 4 Dead subreddit, saying he was working on a new co-op project «built on the principles that made L4D special». He added: «If you enjoyed the teamwork, tension and high replayability of my previous games, you’ll probably be interested in taking a look at this one. It expands the co-op action formula in a way I’ve wanted to» for a long time. The game is still in its early stages, he said, but the studio has already opened up a waiting list for players wanting to get in on playtests.
