Minisforum unveiled the MS-R1 compact ARM workstation with UEFI support and a powerful AI processor

Minisforum has released the MS-R1, a tiny workstation with a mere 1.7 liter capacity based on an ARM processor that supports booting via UEFI. It is the first device of its kind to allow direct installation of popular Linux distributions and virtualization tools without the need for custom firmware or bootloaders.

Minisforum has released a miniature workstation, the MS-R1, based on an ARM processor that supports UEFI booting.

MS-R1 features the new CIX CP8180 processor with 12 cores and 12 threads, a base frequency of 2.6GHz and a heat package of 28W. The processor has an embedded neural processing unit (NPU) with 28.8 TOPS, and the total computational power for AI tasks reaches 45 TOPS. The device is designed for local AI computing, Android containers, and peripheral tasks.

The workstation supports up to 64GB of 5500MHz LPDDR5 RAM with the ability to enable ECC error correction to improve storage reliability (with some memory becoming inaccessible). Some versions feature 1TB NVMe SSDs and a PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slot with the ability to connect U.2 devices via an adapter.

Supports up to 64GB of LPDDR5 RAM at MHz, with the ability to enable ECC error correction to improve storage reliability (with some memory becoming unavailable).

For connectivity, there are two 10GbE network ports based on Realtek RTL8127 controllers, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless module. Video outputs include one HDMI 2.0 and two USB Type-C ports with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode support for up to 4K resolution at 120Hz.

TheMS-R1 also features a full-size PCIe x16 (electrically x8) slot that can be used to install graphics cards, high-speed network cards, or additional storage controllers. The model is aimed at professionals and researchers working with virtualization, Android emulation, and artificial intelligence development.
