IFA 2023. Roborock introduced two robot vacuum cleaners with cool features

The Q5 Pro and Q8 Max models bring dual roller brushes and obstacle avoidance to the company’s low-cost lineup.

At this week’s IFA 2023 trade show in Berlin, robot vacuum cleaner manufacturer Roborock announced three new models: the Q5 Pro robot vacuum cleaner, the Q8 Max robot vacuum cleaner, and the Dyad Pro Combo wet and dry vacuum cleaner. The new Lidar-controlled robot vacuums offer more than twice the suction power of previous models, a new and improved DuoRoller brush system, and more additional features at a lower price. The Dyad Pro — is an all-in-one upright vacuum cleaner.

In the more affordable Q lineup, the Q5 Pro vacuum cleaner costs $430 separately or $700 for the Q5 Pro Plus with an auto-charging dock. The Q8 Max costs $600 separately or $819.99 for the Q8 Max Plus. Both devices will go on sale in October.

The Q5 Pro Pro Plus will be available in October.

The Q5 Pro model is an update to the Q5 and, along with the Q8 Max, is the first Roborock outside of the top-of-the-line S line to feature the new DuoRoller brush system the company introduced earlier this year. It adds two rubber brushes that move in opposite directions to remove dirt more efficiently.

The system is designed to remove dirt more effectively.

The Q5 Pro model adds a mopping function, 5,500 hp of suction power and a built-in 770-milliliter dust collector. Using the Roborock app, you can schedule cleaning, create a map of your home and add restricted areas for more efficient cleaning. A new feature allows you to mark places where the robot is having trouble and automatically suggest setting no-go zones on the map.

A new quick clean option in the app lets you control the robot up to 30% faster, and you can now set a specific cleaning direction along the floor so that the robot is guided toward seams in wood floors or floor tiles.

The new Q8 Max — is a step up from the Q5 Pro, adding Reactive Tech Obstacle Avoidance, which makes the vacuum cleaner less likely to get stuck. It also has a larger water tank (350 ml) than the Q5 Pro, but doesn’t have the advanced features found on some Roborock models (like the Q Revo’s rotating mop attachments or the ability to lift the mop as it moves across the carpet, like the S8).

Roborock’s S7 Max V model features a more advanced obstacle avoidance system — Reactive AI 2.0, which uses 3D structured light and a full-color (RGB) camera to navigate potential problems in the path. The newer high-end Roborock models (S8 series) use the Reactive Tech 3D system, which uses 3D imaging instead of a full-color camera. An infrared sensor and black and white camera help it navigate the terrain, and while it can see and avoid objects, it won’t know which obstacle it’s avoiding. Roborock’s Marcus Lai claims it «works just as well as Reactive AI 2.0». I’m skeptical.

And I’m skeptical.

Dyad Pro Combo — is a 5-in-1 dry and wet vacuum cleaner that can be turned into a stick vacuum. «It’s a versatile device for hand-cleaning any surface, — says Lai. It has 17,000 d.a. of suction power, a multi-surface brush, a variety of attachments and a swivel head that makes it easy to maneuver. «It can suck up a whole bowl of cereal, — says Lai.

A smart sensor detects how dirty the floor is and adjusts the power level, and when you reach it, the vacuum cleaner will clean and dry the floor itself. The vacuum cleaner has a run time of 60 minutes and costs — $660.

About $60.
