Google’s Gemini AI is now available in Chrome
At Google’s I/O 2025 conference, the company announced the integration of Gemini AI into the Chrome browser. The new tool is only available to subscribers of Google’s paid AI Pro and AI Ultra plans.
Now Chrome users on Windows and macOS will be able to access Gemini directly while surfing. The AI can help users understand content, ask clarifying questions, and find information faster – without having to leave the current page.
The integration of Gemini into Chrome is part of Google’s strategy to bring generative AI to all of its key products. Previously, similar features appeared in Gmail, Docs, Search, and Android.

Only users who subscribe to Google AI Pro ($20 per month) or AI Ultra ($250 per month) will have access to the new features. The decision has already drawn criticism as the expansion of AI tools comes amid ongoing antitrust litigation.
The US Department of Justice has previously found Google to be a monopolist using Chrome for anti-competitive purposes. Hearings are currently underway on a possible division of assets. One of the options being discussed is a forced sale of Chrome. OpenAI has already expressed interest in buying the browser, which could dramatically change its future and increase competition in the AI assistant market.
