
During Google’s annual I/O 2025 developer conference, the company announced a major update to its products. The centerpiece of the event was the introduction of generative artificial intelligence into Google’s services, including Search, Gmail, Meet, Chrome, and other platforms.
New AI Mode in Search
AI Mode is coming to Google Search for all users in the US. The new chatbot, powered by Gemini 2.5, is housed in a separate tab and focuses on complex queries, including comparing products, finding tickets, and building personalized charts. It can also answer clarifying questions. Some of the functionality will be built into the main output via AI Overviews. Labs users will be the first to get access.
Artificial Intelligence in Shopping
AI Mode has also been implemented in shopping scenarios. Users will be able to upload photos to try on clothes on a virtual avatar. The system will also track discounts on desired items and even checkout on the user’s behalf.
Statistics on AI Overviews
Google reported that AI Overviews is viewed by more than 1.5 billion users each month. According to the company, the majority of them interact with the feature, from clicking on links to viewing on-screen summaries.
Astra Project Updates
Project Astra, Google’s all-in-one AI assistant, has gotten a new demo. The assistant analyzed emails, searched the web for information, and contacted stores to help the user solve a technical problem. Google plans to integrate Astra’s capabilities into Gemini, making it a full-fledged digital agent.
Model Gemini 2.5 and Deep Think
Model Gemini 2.5 is introduced in a new Pro version with Deep Think mode for complex reasoning. It can transform a grid of images into a 3D sphere with voiceovers and instantly switch between languages. Gmail will introduce personalized quick replies that adjust to the user’s correspondence style. These will be available on a subscription basis starting in the summer.
Live Translation in Meet
Real-time speech translation will be coming to Google Meet. It will be able to replicate the intonation and rhythm of speech. At first, translation will be available between English and Spanish, and later in other languages.
Expanding Gemini Live
The Gemini Live feature comes to Android and iOS devices via the Gemini app. It allows you to ask questions based on the image on the screen or the video stream from the camera. Live search via Google Lens and AI Mode will also become interactive.

Flow video editor and video generation with Veo 3
The new Flow video editor powered by VideoFX is available now to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US. It offers tools to control camera movement, edit clips, and integrate generated video scenes using the Veo 3 model. The latter can create videos with sound. Imagen 4 has also been improved to more accurately capture fine details like fabric and fur.
Detecting AI content via SynthID
The company also unveiled SynthID, a detector that determines what content has been generated by Google’s AI. It scans images, audio, video and text for watermarks. Access to the tool is open to researchers and media outlets.
Subscribe AI Ultra and rename AI Premium
The AI Ultra subscription costs $250 per month and gives you access to all Google AI features, including early access to new tools, unlimited use of resource-intensive features, and 30 TB of cloud storage. The subscription includes YouTube Premium. New users are offered a 50% discount for the first three months. The AI Premium plan has been renamed AI Pro.
Android XR development and Project Aura glasses

As part of the development of the Android XR platform, Google has announced a second device, Xreal’s Project Aura glasses. The platform aims to develop augmented, mixed and virtual reality. Google also showed real-time speech translation on a prototype of the glasses developed with Samsung. Other partners working on their own devices include Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.
Chrome and password manager updates
Chrome’s password manager now knows how to automatically change passwords in case of data breaches, if the site supports it. In addition, the browser will now integrate with Gemini to answer questions about open tabs. It’s accessible through the taskbar and a new menu.
3D video calls under Google Beam

Starline’s project, newly named Google Beam, is being marketed as a 3D video calling solution. Initially, it will only be available to enterprise customers. HP will reveal more details shortly.
