Apple is working on a new AirTag and HomePod mini
While rumors are flying around the web that Xiaomi is preparing to enter the tracker market, Apple is working on an updated version of the AirTag in parallel. The gadget was originally slated for release this year, but the release has been pushed back to the first half of 2026.
The updated AirTag will get an improved pairing process, more accurate Precision Finding, and enhanced battery status reporting. There will also be a new feature called Improved Moving — likely to track the tag’s exact location even when it’s moving. A tool to improve accuracy in crowded areas will also be added.

It’s not yet known which of these features will appear on the original AirTag via a software update, or if they’ll appear at all. For example, improved Precision Finding will likely depend on a new UWB chip, so it’s unlikely to be available to owners of the older version.
