Top 5 best movies of the summer of 2024

Top 5 best movies of the summer of 2024

There’s only one weekend left before the fall movie season kicks off at the summer box office. And despite all the talk that fans have already stopped going to the movies, the best films of summer 2024 have proven that there’s still plenty of life left in ktnotheaters. That sound you hear is —Hollywood’s collective sigh of relief after high-priced movies like “Furiosa: The Mad Max Chronicles” and “Stuntmen” flopped in May.

And that’s the sound you hear.

As much as movie studios rely on blockbusters to keep Hollywood afloat, two of our picks for the best movies of summer 2024 were not big box office successes. That means audiences will have a chance to discover these movies on streaming platforms. The other three films we’ve chosen should be in theaters right now.

Quiet Place: Day One

movie

None of this summer’s alien-themed movies can boast originality. But as enjoyable as “Alien: Romulus” is, “A Quiet Place: Day One” gets the edge over the Alien universe for the tension it builds throughout the action sequences. The movie also surprisingly manages to make us care about the two main characters, Samira (Lupita Nyong’o) and Eric (Joseph Quinn from “Fantastic Four: First Steps”), who we haven’t seen before in the franchise’s previous films.

Eric and Samira are also strangers to each other before the alien invasion begins. But when everything around them dies, they are left with only Samira’s friend and cat, Frodo. Because the movie is both a science fiction and horror movie, there is always a sense of dread and anxiety surrounding the two main characters. Because we know something they don’t: there’s no escape from this threat, and there’s no happy ending in sight.

So we know what they don’t know: there’s no escape from this threat, and there’s no happy ending in sight.

I saw the glow of the TV

.

movie

It’s likely to become one of the cult movies of 2024, since hardly anyone has seen it in theaters. Justice Smith and Bridgette Lundy-Payne played the roles of Owen and Maddie, a pair of teenagers who are brought together by their love and obsession with a TV series called Pink Cloud. The series follows two girls, Isabel (Helena Howard) and Tara (Lindsay Jordan), as they warp time and space while battling Mr. Melancholy (Emma Portner).

The series is about two girls, Isabel (Helena Howard) and Tara (Lindsay Jordan), as they warp time and space while battling Mr. Melancholy (Emma Portner).

Years after Maddie disappears from Owen’s life, and after their favorite show is canceled, the guy meets up with her again. However, Maddie’s statement about “Pink Cloud” causes Owen to question his girlfriend’s sanity…and his own, when he sees something in the show that may be more real than his own mundane life. Their reality begins to warp.

Puzzle 2

movie

Do you know why Pixar has so many blockbuster animated movies? It’s not just because of the top-notch CG animation, it’s because Pixar cartoons have an amazing ability to cause people to become emotionally attached to the characters. Audiences want stories that are touching and, in some ways, life-like, real that they watch, and “Puzzle 2” has recaptured that old Pixar magic. It’s not just the highest-grossing movie of 2024 — it’s now the highest-grossing animated film in history, too.

And it’s the highest-grossing movie in history.

The reason for its success is that audiences young and old alike care about the personified emotions that live inside the head of a 13-year-old girl named Riley Andersen. Much of the plot takes place inside Riley’s head when Joy, Sadness, Anger, Sickness, and Fear feel threatened by the emergence of new emotions, including Anxiety. Almost all of Riley’s internal conflict unfolds between these emotions, and we see how it affects her in the real world as well.

Deadpool and Wolverine

movie

There are far better movies than Deadpool and Wolverine, and this is far from the best MCU movie of all time. But it’s the best time you’ll spend at the movies this summer, thanks to the fact that it’s the best action movie and the best comedy of the season. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s characters may not have the deepest storyline, but no one cares. Marvel fans just wanted to see these two come together, and that’s what they got.

Marvel fans just wanted to see these two come together, and that’s what they got.

The fact that “Deadpool and Wolverine” surged back to the top spot at the box office on the penultimate weekend of the summer suggests that even those who aren’t comic book fans liked the movie. There’s also plenty of nostalgia bait for those who watched the long-running Marvel movies that 20th Century Fox has been making for the past 20 years.

The movie’s a great way to get back to the top of the box office.

I’m Not a Killer

movie

If you only saw one Glen Powell movie this summer, it was probably Deathstroke 2. But if you want to see Powell’s only great movie of the summer, head to Netflix. Richard Linklater’s “I Am Not a Killer” was only released in theaters in limited release before hitting the streaming service, but this film deserved a better chance to be released on the big screens again.

And it’s a film that’s only been in theaters for a limited time before hitting the streaming service.

Powell, like his character Gary Johnson, seems to enjoy taking on many guises while working undercover as a police officer. Gary pretends to be a real hitman to trap people who want to hire a professional to kill. It’s a very effective operation until Gary meets Madison Figueroa Masters (Adria Arjona), a woman who wants him to kill her abusive husband. Gary becomes so enamored with Madison that he strikes up a relationship with her instead of sending her to prison. But because Gary and Madison’s bond is based on lies, their relationship will inevitably crumble in this romcom.

Madison and Gary’s relationship is based on lies.
