CES 2025: unusual robotic cat for beverage refrigeration unveiled

Yukai Engineering, a Japanese company known for its unusual robots, continues to surprise at CES 2025 with new creations. One such product was the Nékojita FuFu, a small cat robot that attaches to the side of a cup or bowl and uses air currents to help cool food. The robot combines a fan and a special algorithm – or as the company calls it, the Fuing System – that creates air currents of random strength and intervals, much like a human does.

What does the name Nékojita FuFu mean?”
.
The robot’s name has two parts. «FuFu» is an onomatopoeia that describes the sound we make when we blow on food. And «Neko-jita» (literally translated «cat-tongue») is a term used to describe people with a low tolerance for hot food, an affliction that affects nearly half of the Japanese population, according to surveys.

The Origin of Nékojita FuFu
Nékojita FuFu was the result of Yukai Engineering’s Internal Hackathon, during which one of the teams recalled how they once had difficulty helping with cooling a hot meal for a toddler. Difficulties with this process often caused team members to feel dizzy and short of breath.

Robot Operating Modes
Nékojita FuFu has several unique modes of operation, each of which mimics different ways of cooling food:
- .
- Basic Main: steady medium airflow at short intervals.
- Look at That!: air currents gradually increase in strength, as if the robot were fascinated by how the food looks.
- I’ve Got This!: a powerful start, then a steady puff.
- The Princess Elegant: slow and steady increase in flow strength.
- Sing My Praise: continuous strong and short flows.
- Ready Yet? : variable medium flows, as if the robot were checking if the food was cooling down enough.
- ‘Til You Drop: long, strong streams blown out with a single breath.
- Not Gonna Spill: steady medium flows with deep breaths in between.
.
Startup and price
Nékojita FuFu will be released in Japan mid 2025 at a price of around $25. This unusual device promises to be a fun and useful kitchen helper, especially for those who face the difficulty of cooling hot food.
