Qualcomm unveiled Snapdragon X2 Plus chip for low-cost notebooks

In September, Qualcomm introduced the flagship Snapdragon X2 Elite and Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme chips for Windows laptops with Arm architecture, and now the company is expanding the lineup with a more affordable model — the Snapdragon X2 Plus. The new product replaces the Snapdragon X Plus, which was announced in September 2024.

Snapdragon X2 Plus is built on third-generation Oryon processor cores and features an 80 TOPS neural processing engine. The chip is manufactured using a 3nm process and will be available in two configurations: with 10 and 6 CPU cores. The version with 10 cores has 34 MB of total cache memory and a maximum frequency of up to 4 GHz under multi-threaded load. The 6-core version has 22MB of cache and the same maximum frequency of 4GHz.

The two versions use the same X2-45 graphics gas pedal, but the frequencies are different. In the 10-core variant, the GPU runs at up to 1.7GHz, while the 6-core — is limited to 900MHz. Both variants support LPDDR5X RAM and feature the same 80 TOPS NPU, which Qualcomm calls the fastest among notebook solutions.

The company also claims that performance is not compromised by battery life, and battery life can be up to several days, though the final runtime will depend on the battery capacity that laptop makers choose. The first Snapdragon X2 Plus-powered devices should be available by the end of June.

Compared to the previous Snapdragon X Plus, the new chip delivers up to 35% more performance per CPU core while reducing power consumption by 43%. It’s also claimed to support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, optional 5G, and up to 128GB of RAM.
