Europeans won’t be able to take advantage of some iOS 26 features due to strict EU regulations

Users in the European Union are still waiting for the ability to mirror iPhones to Macs, and it looks like they won’t be getting the Live Activities feature anytime soon either. The reason for this is the European Union’s strict rules under the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

Some users are still waiting for the iPhone mirroring feature on Macs, and it looks like they won’t be getting the Live Activities feature anytime soon either.

In a recent statement, Apple’s president of legal affairs, Kyle Andere, said that some of the new iOS 26 features may be delayed for users in the EU or may not appear at all. There’s also talk that people in Europe may lose access to AirDrop.

Apple says the DMA harms the company by requiring it to share its technology with other market participants. In addition, Apple says the DMA’s privacy requirements are unrealistic and designed to favor certain companies.

Cupertino also reiterated that Meta* is using the DMA provisions to its advantage and demanding access to technology and user data that is not related to the core services of Facebook* or Instagram*. At the same time, Apple has had to delay the launch of new products and features because it struggles to comply with all the rules, which the company says are applied selectively and not to all firms.

Apple’s official position is that the DMA was not created to protect users, but to benefit individual companies – including European ones.

It’s interesting that Apple openly opposes EU regulators, yet willingly complies with all the Chinese government’s demands. In any case, we can only hope that Apple and the EU can come to an agreement, because in the end, it’s the average user who suffers, as they pay as much or even more than the U.S. but get fewer features.
