Raspberry Pi has released fast microSD cards and a protective “bumper” for the Raspberry Pi 5

The Raspberry Pi is once again delighting its fans! Just a week after releasing the Raspberry Pi AI Camera Kit, the company has announced two new products: its own high-quality microSD cards and a protective silicone bumper for the Raspberry Pi 5.

The Raspberry Pi AI Camera Kit is now available for purchase.

Branded Raspberry Pi microSD cards

The new branded microSD cards from Raspberry Pi were created in collaboration with Longsys. They have been thoroughly tested, including undergoing over 100,000 random «surprise power-downs» under high I/O loads, to confirm their reliability. These cards deliver excellent random read and write performance when compared to cards from other manufacturers.

The Raspberry Pi brand on A2 class cards gives users confidence in their quality and compliance. These cards offer 32GB ($10), 64GB ($15), and 128GB ($20) storage capacity. When used with the Raspberry Pi 5, they support SDR104 bus speeds for best performance, but will also work with older Raspberry Pi models. The cards can be supplied with the Raspberry Pi OS already pre-installed, or in a format to write the OS later. The pre-installed OS variant will cost a little more.

The new Raspberry Pi 5 supports Class A2 microSD cards and utilizes the Command Queueing Host Controller Interface (CQHCI). This enhancement allows for faster execution of commands that the controller will be able to queue, sort, and run. This approach reduces the latency associated with accessing different pages of NAND memory, ultimately increasing throughput for the random I/O operations that often occur with Raspberry Pi OS.

Although the best performance of these cards comes when used with Raspberry Pi 5, even without the command queue feature they perform well on older Raspberry Pi models. Tom’s Hardware has already requested these cards for testing, and plans to include them in their list of the best microSD cards for the Raspberry Pi.

Raspberry Pi Bumper: a protective bumper for the Raspberry Pi 5

An unexpected addition was the second product released on the same day: a silicone protective bumper for the Raspberry Pi 5. This «bumper» costs just $3 and attaches to the base of the Raspberry Pi 5, protecting its edges.

At the same time, the Raspberry Pi 5 has a silicone bumper that protects its edges.

It begs the question: what about access to the power button? Don’t worry – this specially designed bumper provides easy access to the button. Plus, thanks to its silicone base, the Raspberry Pi 5 won’t slip around on your desktop, adding to the ease of use.

Tom’s Hardware also requested a sample of the bumper for a full review. While it’s unclear how much detail is available to review such a simple product, the team intends to test and describe all of its features.

TomRs Hardware also asked for a full review of the bumper.

New microSD cards and a bumper: what does this mean for Raspberry Pi users?”

.

The launch of new branded microSD cards from Raspberry Pi provides users with a convenient and reliable way to boost the performance of their devices. These cards, with their high read and write speeds, are especially useful for users who frequently work with large amounts of data or program on the Raspberry Pi.

The new microSD cards are a great way for users to improve the performance of their devices.

A protective bumper for Raspberry Pi 5 is also a simple but effective way to protect your device. This accessory will be especially useful for those who actively use their Raspberry Pi in projects where mechanical damage is likely to occur.
