DJI introduced the RS 5 stabilizer with intelligent tracking and improved motors

DJI has officially announced the DJI RS 5 professional stabilizer, focusing on smarter object tracking and the convenience of single-operator shooting. The new product has been unveiled in China and is on pre-order with prices starting at 3,099 yuan. Rather than a radical redesign, DJI has focused on practical improvements to the already familiar RS lineup.

The new RS 5 has been unveiled in China and is available for pre-order now, starting at a price point of just £1,099 yuan.

The key innovation is the RS Enhanced Intelligent Tracking module. This magnetically attached device displays images directly on the stabilizer’s touchscreen and allows the operator to simply touch an object to activate tracking. The system can track people, cars and pets up to 10 meters away and can quickly «pick up» an object again, even if it briefly disappears from the frame. On-screen control reduces the need for gestures or external controllers.

DJI has also improved the motors — peak thrust is claimed to increase by up to 50 percent. They’re paired with a fifth-generation stabilization algorithm that better handles sudden changes in direction and vertical shooting.

In terms of ergonomics, the RS 5 gets a built-in electronic adapter for easier one-handed operation and low-angle shooting. A real-time Z-axis stability indicator has been added to the screen to help the operator control vertical sway when moving. Switching between landscape and portrait orientation is now faster and requires no additional accessories.

With a weight of only 1.46 kg (including handle and quick release plate), the stabilizer can support loads up to 3 kg. Adjustable leveling handles on all axes and a folding locking system speed up balancing and transportation. Battery life reaches approximately 14 hours and fast charging takes about one hour. An optional high-capacity battery extends the operating time to up to 30 hours.

The base version of the DJI RS 5 is priced at 3,099 yuan, while the advanced kit — 3,899 yuan. Pre-orders are already open in the Chinese market.
