According to the creators of the animated series Secret Level, the idea to include these two iconic characters in an episode was proposed but did not receive approval from rights holders.

In an interview with Collider, Tim Miller, the creator of Secret Level, revealed that the series team had sought to incorporate major game franchises into the project, but were not always given permission to do so.

“It annoys me when people write, ‘Why did they take Spelunky and not Halo?” or something like that,” Miller said. “And I’m like, ‘What, you think we didn’t even try to talk to Halo?'”

“We wanted to create an episode where Master Chief and Doom Slayer meet. I spent an entire weekend composing a passion letter, talking about my childhood. But, as Tim had already said, the answer was, ‘No.’

The first season of the Secret Level series features 15 original stories set in the worlds of various game franchises. Amazon said the series was the most popular animated debut on Prime Video in its first week of airing, though exact viewership figures were not provided.
