According to a report out of South Korea, major updates to Samsung’s foldable smartphones may only come with the release of the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8. This information was revealed in an interview with Fastprint, the Chinese company that became the first supplier of High-Density Interconnect (HDI) technology for the Galaxy S25 series.

According to a Fastprint representative, Samsung plans to sell 6 million Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, for the next-generation models – the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 – the company expects to increase sales to 7 million units. If that turns out to be true, Samsung’s current foldable devices may not live up to expectations.

Samsung’s overall sales forecasts for 2025

Samsung expects to sell about 230 million smartphones in 2025. Although shipments exceeded 300 million in 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic severely affected the market and sales volumes never recovered to pre-crisis levels. In 2024, the company’s total smartphone sales volume was around 222 million units.

The Galaxy S24 model performed well, reaching 35 million units sold last year. This surpassed the performance of the Galaxy S23 series. The Galaxy S25 series is expected to be even more successful, with anticipated sales of 37 million units.
