The new Supersonic r hair dryer has been unveiled at New York Fashion Week.
The r in the name owes its unusual shape to the device. According to the company, it was designed to reflect the differences in how professionals and home users use the hair dryer. Compared to its predecessor, the Dyson Supersonic r is 30% more compact and 20% lighter, weighing just 325 grams.
Based on feedback from professionals, the company has also moved the cold air button to just below the curve of the body. At the same time, the manufacturer had to make the motor smaller so it could fit in the handle of the hair dryer. There’s also a built-in thermistor with glass beads that works in conjunction with a temperature sensor.
The main function of the device is three special disks, which provide more even heating of hair compared to traditional spiral coils. It also has a protective filter that prevents hair and styling and grooming products from getting inside the body.
Special attention is paid to the RFID smart attachments, which read the signal encoded in them and automatically adjust the settings of the hair dryer. However, the user can manually change the settings by rewriting the chip program.
Dyson Supersonic r will go on sale this March for $569 ($51,700) and will initially be available only to professionals. A timeline for retail stores will be announced at a later date.
