Yes, we know. 3D monitors and TVs have failed repeatedly in the past, so why are companies taking it up again? Well, they’re hoping the technology will work this time around, as AR and immersive gaming are becoming more and more prominent these days. Samsung has unveiled a glasses-free 3D monitor designed for gaming. It uses a built-in eye and head tracking system, and that’s how it delivers 3D images, adjusting the position of content on the screen according to the position of the user’s eyes and head.

And that’s how it works.

Samsung claims the monitor supports existing VR games and is even compatible with Steam VR, which means you can enjoy VR content without using a VR headset. The company is also working with game developers to release more content compatible with the monitor. Apparently, the monitor can also offer 3D effects for 2D content by analyzing objects and colors and then applying shadows to them. But we’re not sure how effective or satisfactory that would be.
