  • Loss of connection notification will include the ring’s battery level at the time of disconnection
  • The system will remind you to charge your Galaxy Ring regularly to avoid a full discharge
  • The new feature will alert users how long the ring has been without being connected to a smartphone

Samsung already sends some notifications from the Galaxy Ring to a connected smartphone, including battery information and connection status. Soon, those notifications could get smarter and noticeably more useful.

New notification types

Samsung is working on improving the notifications that the Galaxy Ring sends to smartphones, according to code for the Galaxy Ring Manager app discovered by Android Authority. One of the improvements concerns the notification that’s sent when the Galaxy Ring disconnects from a smartphone. It could begin to include information about the ring’s charge level at the time the connection is lost. This will let users know if they forgot the accessory somewhere or if its battery has run out. The device could also specifically prompt users to regularly charge the Galaxy Ring before the battery runs out and keep it from going completely dead to keep the ring healthy. Another type of notification could tell users how long their ring has been without being connected to a smartphone. This can serve as a reminder of a dead battery or a forgotten ring.

Development Status

New notification prompts have been revealed in the latest version of the Galaxy Ring Manager app, but the feature is still in development. As is usually the case with such things, there’s no strict timetable for its release to users, though it could happen soon.

When the update comes out, it will be a quality-of-life improvement for the notifications the Galaxy Ring is now sending. The ring sends an alert when its battery is down to 15 percent and sends a simple notification when it loses connection to your phone. Other smart rings don’t have similar notifications. The Oura Ring doesn’t notify users when they disconnect from their smartphone and only shows connection status within the app.
