Apple has released iPadOS 18.5 – what’s new?

Apple has released iPadOS 18.5 – and as is often the case at the end of an OS’ lifecycle, there’s not much new in it. The main focus is on bug fixes and synchronization with iOS 18.5 features.

No unique iPad-specific features appear in this release. Apple was clearly focused on preparing future AI features related to Apple Intelligence, but their release was delayed. As a result, iPadOS 18.5 was modest.

What’s new in iPadOS 18.5

Despite the overall minimalism, the update still contains a few new features:

  • New wallpaper
  • Parental Notification – now if a child uses the Screen Time code, the parent will receive a notification;
  • Apple TV app update: ability to complete a purchase via iPhone when using Apple TV on third-party devices (previously only worked with Apple TV 4K).

That’s it. That’s basically the end of the list of changes.

How to Install iPadOS 18.5

Although the update is small, installation is recommended – at least for the sake of stability and security. If you have automatic updates enabled, it will install overnight. But you can update your system manually:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Main → Software Update
  3. Click on Download and install iPadOS 18.5
