Last year at The Game Awards, Sega announced new installments in fan-favorite series including Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Crazy Taxi and Shinobi. The description of the upcoming Shinobi game reads, “Run through the Shinobi world full of monsters and ninjas. Take Oberozuki, the legendary sword, and defeat evil once again. Your clan and the whole world are counting on you.”

And the world is counting on you.

Sega’s decision to release Shinobi in both game and movie reflects the company’s recent cinematic success with the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. The third installment of the franchise, starring Keanu Reeves as Shadow, hits screens on Dec. 20. Sega and Universal are hoping to replicate the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which became the second highest-grossing movie of 2023 and one of the most successful animated films of all time, behind only Inside Out 2.

Fans can expect a combination of high-octane action and nostalgic storytelling as Joe Musashi takes the fight against evil from consoles to the big screen.
