Borderlands 4: rumors, release date speculation and more

If it weren’t for the original Borderlands, the shooter genre wouldn’t exist as we know it today. That hybrid RPG FPS game from Gearbox not only introduced us to the wild and crazy world of Pandora and the Vault seekers, but also to the addictive grind cycle for endless weapons. The sequel was even better, perhaps the sequel even became one of the best video games of all time for some, but the third one was pretty much a mixed bag and even controversial in places. It was able to hold players’ attention thanks to a lot of DLC and the fact that it was a great cross-platform co-op game, but we were all waiting for more adventures on Pandora.
It was a great game to play, but we were all waiting for more adventures on Pandora.
Borderlands 4 would be the next logical gameplay stage to go to, and that’s what all the rumors and hints suggest. Whether the idea of reuniting with Tin Man fills you with joy or dread, here’s everything we know about Borderlands 4 so far.

Before you start preparing your bags at a frantic pace for a new mining adventure, it’s worth realizing that there’s very little information about Borderlands 4, and what appears around us on the internet may not even be true. Some of the information — are quite specific rumors, but some of the ni still more of a guess based on some other information.
Release Date Speculation

The last two games in the Borderlands universe are Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and New Tales from the Borderlands 2022 . However, we haven’t had a full-fledged main game since 2019. This could still delay Borderlands 4 by a few years if the team doesn’t start until after 2022; however, Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford is suggesting otherwise.
At the same time, we’re not expecting a full-fledged mainline game.
In an interview with TheGamer, Pitchford said:
I don’t think I’ve hidden the fact that we’re working on something well enough. And I think people who love Borderlands are going to be very excited about what we’re working on… These are fuzzy words, but sooner rather than later, we’re going to talk about what we’re working on, and I can’t wait for that moment.
And I think I’m going to be very excited about what we’re working on.
The mention that Borderlands 4 is not a closely guarded secret refers to a page on the official account, where the employee listed both Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 on his resume .
It’s not a closely guarded secret.
There’s a lot of ambiguity in Pitchford’s statement, but if we only get an announcement before the end of the year, it could be another two years or more before Borderlands 4 is actually completed. So we’ll have to be patient and watch for any changes in the game’s production.

If Borderlands 4 is indeed coming out sooner than we think, it will definitely be coming out on current-gen consoles. Even if that happens as early as 2025, we should already be past the point where a game of this size and scope becomes cross-gen, so expect it to be available only on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

It’s safe to assume that the new installment will continue to build on the same formula the series has used since the first game. Sure, there will be new Vault seekers with new abilities, new weapons, enemies, ultimates, vehicles, and more. Beyond that, it’s too hard to say right now where the gameplay will go next.
