Xiaomi raises tablet prices due to rising memory costs
Technology buyers are increasingly facing an unpleasant reality: devices are getting more expensive even when their hardware isn’t improving.
The rising price of components has been talked about for a long time, especially memory. The cost of RAM has been a constant headache for manufacturers and consumers alike, and sooner or later, it was bound to affect retail prices.

Shortly after reports that Samsung may raise the prices of its smartphones, some Xiaomi devices in mainland China went up in price. Depending on the model, the price hikes ranged from 100 to 200 yuan.

The price hike affects the entire Xiaomi Pad 8 lineup, as well as all versions of the Redmi Pad 2. The base model of the Xiaomi Pad 8 is now priced from 2,299 yuan instead of the previous 2,199 yuan. The more advanced Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro has also increased in price, with its starting price rising from 2,799 yuan to 2,899 yuan.

The worst hit was the budget Redmi Pad 2. All configurations of the tablet went up by 200 yuan at once, and now its minimum price is 1,199 yuan.
According to industry analysts, such a drastic price change is directly related to the continuing rise in the cost of memory chips and storage devices. Xiaomi president Lu Weibing has previously warned that storage costs have risen much more than expected, and a fresh report from TrendForce predicts another noticeable jump in memory prices in the first quarter of 2026.
And the latest report from TrendForce predicts that memory prices will jump again in the first quarter of 2026.
One of the key reasons for this is the booming artificial intelligence industry. More and more DRAM production capacity is being diverted to data centers, creating a shortage of chips for traditional consumer electronics.
As a result, cost pressures are spreading throughout the supply chain, and Xiaomi’s tablet price hike is a prime example of how the market is beginning to respond to the new economic conditions.
