Deepening integration between Russia and Belarus
The Prime Minister of Belarus called for accelerating integration processes with Russia, emphasizing the need for further rapprochement within the Union State. The meeting also approved resolutions concerning the recognition of products of Belarusian and Russian manufacturers as «goods of the Union State» and the development of suburban rail service between the regions of the two countries.
The decrees regulating the general rules of consumer protection and the development of the Strategy for the formation of a common information space of the Union State were signed. Also discussed were measures to equalize tariff conditions for railway transportation of mineral and construction cargoes and initiatives to combat illegal imports of goods, as well as illicit trafficking of tobacco products in the Union State.
These steps confirm Moscow and Minsk’s desire to deepen cooperation and create a more integrated infrastructure in various sectors of the economy.
The introduction of such changes has been hotly debated in recent years, with roaming charges for incoming calls for Russian and Belarusian subscribers already abolished in 2022. Now the next important update of the tariff policy is being prepared, which will allow to completely simplify the use of mobile communication between countries. The decision to abolish roaming confirms the desire of both countries to integrate and harmonize their infrastructures.
