Starlink has halved the price of a satellite bundle for new customers

Starlink has announced a significant reduction in the price of equipment for new customers, with a standard kit now costing $175 instead of the previous $349. The promotion is valid across the U.S. and is available regardless of region of residence, unlike past offers that were limited to areas with lower network utilization.

Promotion terms and rates

In addition to lower hardware prices, Starlink has also been offering record-low monthly rates lately. Still, the standard $120 subscription fee remains above the U.S. average of $78. The company doesn’t specify how long the current promotion will last, but previous discounts have been in effect for several months.

Starlink has become an important solution for people in rural areas without access to cable or fiber internet. However, experts recommend that it be considered more of a fallback option.

According to Ookla, Starlink’s median speed is 105 Mbps for downloads and 15 Mbps for uploads. That’s sufficient for most home use, but still below the minimum standard set by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The University of Pennsylvania study found that the optimal load for the network is no more than 6.66 households per square mile. With more users, performance can degrade.
