Yandex will celebrate the 40th anniversary of school informatics with an exhibition and interactive lessons

The 2025/26 school year in Russia marks 40 years since computer science appeared in the school program. To mark the anniversary, Yandex Textbook and Yandex Museum are launching an educational initiative: teachers will be able to conduct interactive lessons on the history of computing, and schoolchildren and everyone else will be able to visit the “Informatics in Everything” exhibition.

Quest lessons for schoolchildren

Teachers are invited to start a computer science course with an interactive lesson in Yandex Textbook. It’s structured like a quest through a museum: students explore key stages in the development of computing technology and discuss how the discoveries of the past relate to modern technology and their everyday lives.

Moving exhibition “Informatics in everything”

The central event will be the exhibition, which will open in Kazan, then travel to Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk. The exhibition will feature retro computers and artifacts from the collection of the Yandex Museum, as well as interactive installations and quests.

The visitors will be able to get acquainted with modern professions related to digital technologies:

• data journalist,
• ML developer,
• AI trainer,
• Digital accessibility specialist,
• industrial designer,
• creative director.

The project is designed not only to recall the 40-year history of school informatics, but also to show its connection to life today and future professions. Yandex’s initiative should help schoolchildren gain a deeper understanding of the digital world, and teachers should use new tools to conduct modern and exciting lessons.

Participation in the project is free. A special website contains information about events and the history of the subject. There you can read the memories of teachers of different generations and Yandex employees who share how computer science lessons helped them to enter the IT sphere.
