Xiaomi SU7 Max set a world endurance record among mass-produced electric cars

Xiaomi SU7 Max set a world endurance record among mass-produced electric cars

Electric cars are gradually moving away from arguments over who has the biggest battery or the most advanced screen. In China, automakers are opting for a tougher way to prove their capabilities — endurance tests. As part of such a test, the new-generation Xiaomi SU7 Max electric sedan took to the high-speed track to determine how much distance it can cover in one day. After 24 hours of continuous driving and recharging, the car covered 4,264 kilometers.

This is a new world record for a production electric car in this test format. This distance is comparable to traveling from New York to Los Angeles or Madrid to Moscow, which would take almost two days in a conventional car without stops. Xiaomi surpassed last year’s record of 3,961 kilometers for the Xpeng Next P7, and also left behind premium models like the Porsche Taycan and the new Mercedes-Benz CLA, which achieved 3,425 and 3,717 kilometers, respectively.

The Xiaomi P7 has also surpassed the previous year’s record of 3,961 kilometers.

The test took place on a 7.8-kilometer-long oval track in Yancheng, China. The Xiaomi SU7 Max traveled at speeds of up to 240 kilometers per hour for the entire 24 hours. The head of the company, Lei Jun, compared this test to «a marathon at sprint speed». Such a mode is extremely stressful for the electric car because of the intense heat of the electric motors and battery, which usually leads to a decrease in performance.

To combat overheating, the SU7 utilizes a special thermal management system similar to that used in the high-performance version of the SU7 Ultra. It allows the 101.7 kWh battery to maintain optimum temperature, maintain high speeds and take a quick charge. The car stopped several times during the race to recharge, but the delays were minimal: thanks to the 897V architecture, the 670-kilometer range is replenished in just 15 minutes.

The key to the record — updated tech stuff. The Xiaomi SU7 Max model year 2026 gets V6s Plus electric motors capable of spinning up to 22,000 rpm. This allows the car to reach a top speed of 265 km/h. Under normal conditions, the range reaches 835 kilometers on a single charge. The powertrain produces 495 kW of power, equivalent to approximately 673 horsepower, and 838 Nm of torque.

A lot of attention has been paid to safety. The sedan has a reinforced body that’s designed to withstand heavy loads, built-in rollover protection, and nine airbags. The car remains a full-fledged family sedan in dimensions: length is 4,997 mm, width — 1,963 mm, height — 1,440 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm provides a spacious interior.

Xiaomi is rapidly gaining momentum in the electric car market. Although the brand is known primarily for smartphones, its cars are quickly gaining popularity. The company has delivered more than 411,000 electric cars in 2025. The official launch of the next-generation Xiaomi SU7 Max is scheduled for April 2026, with pre-orders already being accepted. The model is priced at 309,900 yuan, which is equivalent to about 37,960 euros.

For a car capable of setting world endurance records and outperforming many sports cars, such a price attracts the attention of drivers around the world. This test clearly shows that today’s electric cars are ready for the extremes, and that the gap between traditional carmakers and technology companies is rapidly closing.
