Xiaomi brings Leica-inspired shutter sounds to older models

Xiaomi is improving the photography experience on Leica-enabled devices with a new update that adds authentic shutter sounds for millions of users. Xiaomi’s photography team has announced the launch of unique Leica shutter sounds for all Leica partner devices as part of an upcoming update. This innovation follows the successful introduction of these sounds on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra earlier this year, which was praised for its attention to detail and engaging camera experience.

The new sound effects package includes four variations, each based on historic Leica cameras:

  1. Mechanical: adapted from the Leica M6, this sound (used by 18.8% of photographers) mimics the real shutter sound of a classic rangefinder camera. At shutter speeds slower than 0.4 seconds, you’ll hear an emulated mechanical motor noise, which creates a retro feel.
  2. Classical: based on the characteristic click of the Leica M9 (preferred by 16% of users), this sound has a short fixed duration to simulate mechanical processing.
  3. Default: emulates the iconic Leica M3 shutter click preferred by 15% of photographers on Xiaomi devices.
  4. Modern: emulates the sound of the Leica M10 shutter, favored by 14% of users for its balanced sound signature.

The update will be available in two phases for a wide range of compatible Xiaomi devices:
