Samsung has patented a new under-screen camera technology
By ForGeeks Samsung continues to develop the under-display camera (UDC) technology already used in its flagship devices. In its new patent, the company has unveiled an improved optical sensor-based solution that addresses the shortcomings of current stealth cameras.

The UDC technology is far from perfect at the moment – it degrades the quality of photos, and the area where the sensor is located under the screen becomes noticeable when viewed at certain angles. Switching to an optical sensor reportedly should help solve both of those problems.

The new technology is expected to adapt the image displayed in the camera sensor area depending on the current brightness and other screen parameters. It will use a specialized display driver chip that can either turn off pixels or output an image that minimizes visual distortion in the camera area.
The patent states that the updated technology will primarily target foldable and collapsible displays. Thus, the Galaxy S and Galaxy A series devices won’t be getting such an under-screen camera in the near future.
