iPhone 17 Pro: leak reveals updated front panel design

Apple has kept the Dynamic Island design unchanged since the release of the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022. However, according to a leak from Chinese publication My Drivers, the iPhone 17 Pro model will get a more compact notch on the front panel.
According to a leak from Chinese publication My Drivers, the iPhone 17 Pro model will get a more compact notch on the front panel.
This move will be Dynamic Island’s first change in two years. While the introduction of Face ID technology under the screen is not yet expected, Apple plans to use the latest development, metalens (metasurface lenses). These lenses, thanks to their flat design and lightness, will reduce the size of the Face ID cutout.
In contrast to traditional lenses, which shape images through surface curvature, metalens are based on nanostructured materials. This technology opens up the potential for smaller and lighter optical components, freeing up space inside the device.

Expected design changes
According to the leak, the iPhone 17 Pro will also get reduced bezels around the screen. While an all-glass body remains a future dream for now, such innovations are an important step in that direction. Concept images provided by My Drivers show a preliminary view of the new front panel.

Model lineup: not everyone will be affected
.
According to analyst Jeff Poo, only the iPhone 17 Pro Max model will be affected by the use of metalens. The rest of the devices in the series will likely retain the familiar Dynamic Island size.

And rumors continue to swirl about possible changes to the back panel design. It’s not yet clear whether Apple will switch to horizontally mounted cameras, but new information suggests the company is ready to update the look of its devices.
