Huawei Kirin 9030 will show a performance boost of 20%

Huawei’s recently launched Pura 80 series features the Kirin 9020 chipset – the same one used in last year’s Mate 70 lineup – but the main interest right now isn’t so much in the current generation, but in what’s coming next. Huawei’s next flagship processor, presumably dubbed the Kirin 9030, is due to debut alongside the Mate 80 series later this year.
According to a new leak, the Kirin 9030 could offer a 20 percent performance boost over the Kirin 9020. That’s a marked improvement, especially when you consider that Huawei claims the Kirin 9020 itself is 36% faster than the chips behind the Pura 70 series. If the numbers hold true, it means that the Kirin 9030 could be 50-60% faster than the Kirin 9000s 5G. Still, it’s worth treating this data with a degree of skepticism – the source of the leak isn’t yet reliable.
A more realistic look at the chip’s projected release schedule. According to a verified Digital Chat Station insider, Huawei is preparing one of four major flagship chips scheduled for release in late 2025. And in all likelihood, it’s the Kirin 9030 we’re talking about.

Of course, we shouldn’t expect Huawei’s new chip to compete on equal footing with top-end solutions from Snapdragon or Apple – at least not yet. However, it’s not just the performance that could be much more interesting, but how the chip is made.
A number of Chinese sources claim that the Kirin X90 desktop chip for PCs is already being produced using a 5nm process. If Huawei does indeed manage to produce 5nm chips internally, it would be a huge step forward for the company’s entire semiconductor strategy.

Besides «hardware», Huawei’s real trump card today remains software optimization. And, admittedly, the company has achieved impressive results in this area. Take, for example, a foldable smartphone Mate X5 with three screens and Kirin 9010 chip. Despite the huge display load, the device runs smoothly and stably.
So while Huawei’s chips are still behind industry leaders in terms of “dry” numbers, the company is finding other ways to stay in the game.
