Xiaomi may ditch Leica and bet on its own camera technology

Xiaomi has announced that it will end its partnership with Leica to develop cameras for its smartphones. The new flagships, including the expected Xiaomi 16 and Redmi K90 Pro lineup, will exclusively use Leica’s own imaging technology.

What will changeya
- The Leica logos on the bodies
- Lower production costs ($3-5 savings per device)
- The freed up funds will be used to improve the hardware
will disappear.
What users will get
- More advanced camera sensors
- Improved computational photography algorithms
- Enlarged batteries
- Modern flat panel displays
Special attention will be paid to the budget Redmi and Poco lines, where they promise «epic-level»improvements in cameras.
Xiaomi is following in the footsteps of Huawei, which has also previously abandoned Leica and developed its own XMAGE system. Other major manufacturers are keeping their partnerships intact for now, with Vivo working with Zeiss, Oppo — with Hasselblad, and Honor — with Harcourt.
