Take-Two Interactive has decided to sell its indie game studio Private Division, known for projects like The Outer Worlds and Kerbal Space Program 2. Take-Two will retain support for the game No Rest for the Wicked, which went into early access in April. Lewis also thanked the Private Division team for their contributions and expressed confidence in their future success in their new position.

As Bloomberg reports, the label has faced challenges of late, including the failed launch of Kerbal Space Program 2, which was criticized for an abundance of bugs. As part of the deal, all current projects such as Tales of the Shire, a farm simulator in the universe of The Lord of the Rings, and a new game from Pokémon developer Game Freak known as Project Bloom, will transfer to the new owner. CEO of Take-Two Strauss Zelnick noted in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that a buyer for Private Division will be announced shortly, and added:

.

“The Private Division team has been great at supporting independent developers, and most of the projects they have supported have been successful. However, the scale of these projects has been relatively small, whereas our goal is to release big hits like the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI.”

So Take-Two plans to focus on big projects while continuing to grow its core business, while Private Division is handing over its projects to a new owner to focus on indie games.
