The head of Sega called the game c NFT “boring”

Sega has reportedly cooled its interest in blockchain games. While it is not rejecting the technology entirely, Bloomberg reports that the company has shelved plans to develop its own blockchain-based games. «Actions in games «play-to-earn» are boring» —Sega co-CEO Shuji Utsumi told the publication. «What’s the point if games aren’t enjoyable? ».
The company that created Sonic The Hedgehog allows third-party partners to create NFT games using some franchises, including Three Kingdoms and Virtua Fighter, but it does not allow major characters to be associated with blockchain games to avoid potential IP devaluation.

«We’re looking into whether this technology will really take off in this industry»—said Utsumi. Despite the cooling of interest in blockchain games, the company will continue to invest in this area as long as there remains a chance that it will become popular in the future.
