Former CD Projekt RED developers have created The Blood of Dawnwalker

Rebel Wolves, the new studio created by the former developers of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, has announced its new game, The Blood of Dawnwalker.

The Blood of Dawnwalker looks to be a gothic fantasy on par with The Witcher. It features a character who, like Geralt, has traded humanity for power. Cohen, the protagonist, combines human traits with vampiric power to take down his enemies.

The developer’s legacy is evident in every detail of the debut trailer. Even the Dawnwalker logo and music are reminiscent of The Witcher. The trailer begins with a group of soldiers pursuing a man and his sister in the forest of the Carpathian Mountains in 1347. The soldiers corner them and are about to put them to death to stop the spread of disease, when suddenly monsters appear and massacre them in a truly brutal fashion. The trailer is well worth watching, but be warned that it’s not at all for children.

There are no other details, except for the advertising slogan: “True evil can bask in the sunlight, and your most loyal allies can hide under the cover of night.” Blood of Dawnwalker has everything it needs to present players with complex moral issues, and the trailer, which features a seemingly evil monster fighting for good, suggests that the game could be a deep, potentially timely exploration of good and evil.

So far, it’s not as if it’s a good game.

Only a few snippets of gameplay were shown. Cohen fights enemies, slides down a wall, hangs from a flagpole and looks out over a large forest. While none of what was shown seems entirely original, the game still looks like the team put all the elements together in a way that resulted in a fun and novel gaming experience.
