Microsoft: Starfield’s release set a Game Pass record

The release day of Starfield marked the highest number of Game Pass subscriptions in the service’s history, Microsoft claims. The news comes on the heels of Microsoft’s Q1 earnings, covering the period from July through September, in which the highly anticipated RPG was released.
The news comes on the heels of the release of Starfield.
Starfield was the best-selling game in the U.S. in September. The game was available on the first day on Xbox Game Pass, which incentivized users to sign up for a subscription. In addition to the full version of the game, many players purchased the Deluxe Edition update for Starfield, which allowed the game to be played a few days early before it was available on Xbox Game Pass.

According to Microsoft, Bethesda’s new game primarily drove growth in Xbox Game Pass sales and first-person content, with revenues up 9%. Microsoft’s gaming business posted record revenue figures for the July through September period, driven in part by the game’s release.
